After the Choir’s morning rehearsal had finished at 12noon we broke for lunch and made our final preparations for the arrival of Hampton Vale and John Clare Primary Schools.
The workshop started at 1pm and everyone worked very hard preparing for the 4.30pm concert for the parents. Everyone had such a good time and the feedback from the visiting parents was very positive.
Thank you to:
Those members of PYS stayed for the whole day
Helen Yeeles for the hard work she put in to prepare Hampton Vale choir
Claire Taylor for the hard work she put in with the John Clare choir
The wedding took place at St Mary’s church, Wansford; being held on a rainy December afternoon between 1pm and 2pm. The turn out from PYS members was so good the choir almost didn’t fit in to the stalls in the church! The congregation found the rendition of Jerusalem uplifting and were extremely impressed with the performance given throughout the ceremomy.
What a marvellous end to 2011! It was wonderful to hear both sections of Peterborough Young Singer’s choir working together so well. The senior section demonstrated their considerable musical talent singing ‘A Child is Born’ and ‘The Coventry Carol’, and the junior section performed a great rendition of ‘Frosty the Snowman’. The final carol sung as an echo to The Gildenburgh’s lead, and titled ‘From Highest Heaven’, proved that PYS are able to match the performance of choirs with many more years experience.
All who performed should be very proud of themselves.
After the morning rehearsal parents came along to ECC to join with the choir in a ‘bring and share’ get together; and to socialise for the last hour of our final rehearsal of the term.
Each member of the choir received a small chocolate selection box as a thank you for their efforts.
We joined the Kings School students at Morrisons, in Stanground, for a morning’s fund raising activities. PYS provided the festive entertainment whilst the King’s pupils concentrated on helping the shoppers pack their bags. A big thank you to Steve Dadge, the Store Manager, and his staff for supplying both parties with drinks, snacks and a room to hang out in during break times.
The choir met at Elton Garden Centre for 1.45pm; gathering in the conservatory to begin their carol singing. It was another lovely opportunity to kick start Christmas and allowed family and friends an opportunity to hear PYS sing; the Elton Garden Centre cafeteria was full to bursting during the ‘a capella’ performance!
The choir sang at Dobbies Garden Centre for two hours entertaining all Dobbies’ customers who were getting ideas for Xmas gifts. PYS received many lovely comments from all who heard them sing, saying how nice it was to see the choir enjoying themselves so much.
A big thanks to all the parents who stayed to support us; a wonderful taster for our concert with the Gildenburgh on the 17th December.
After a busy, but productive, 2 hours rehearsing for Xmas the choir walked to Lakeside Bowl on New Road; everyone who went really enjoyed their three hours bowling. One of the highlights of the afternoon was being able to share in the birthday celebrations of two of our senior choir members … the chocolate cake was delicious!!
After the Choir’s morning rehearsal had finished at 12noon we broke for lunch and made our final preparations for the arrival of Hampton Hargate and Nene Valley Primary Schools.
The workshop started at 1pm and everyone worked very hard preparing for the 4.30pm concert for the parents. The concert covered pieces from Early English 14th Century Rounds to contemporary pieces such as Take That’s ‘Rule the World’.

We are really looking forward to the next Workshop in February!
The wedding began at 1pm; the choir arriving half an hour before so that they could run through each of the three pieces they were to sing:
Since the wedding we have received a thank you from the happy couple, and they have kindly provided the following testimonial:
“It was a great day, and we were so happy we had the choir to take away the seriousness of being in a church and they sang beautifully throughout the whole service and gave courage to the guests to sing the hymns. I will certainly recommend PYS to my friends and family.”
