Past Events

In this section we’ll keep a catalogue of past events—with a small review—so that everyone can get a full sense of how active we are!

Royal Albert Hall

Sunday July 11th

In what has become an annual event, the Senior choirs third choir travelled down to the Royal Albert Hall to join the massed choir performing Faure’s Requiem and the premier performance of Karl Jenkins “Gloria”.
Singing in the Royal Albert Hall was ‘really amazing’ and a good end to a busy year for the choir.

Midsummer Melodies

Friday July 9th

Our final concert of the year was held on a fine summer’s evening in the outdoor amphitheatre at Hampton College.
The choir closed the year with a very fine performance.
‘Good Luck’ to those members who are leaving us, we hope that you will come back to visit us in the future. We also said goodbye to our Musical Director, Ben. Good luck to everyone in the future!

Armed Man

Saturday May 8th

Peterborough Young Singers joined the Peterborough Choral Society in their production of “The Mass of the Children” by John Rutter and “The Armed Man” by Karl Jenkins.

Cambridgeshire Music Concert

Saturday April 10th

The choir joined the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Youth Orchestra and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Youth Wind Orchestra for a Gala Concert show casing the area’s young musicians.
The concert was held in Peterborough Cathedral starting at 5pm.
It was also a chance to meet up with some of our recent leavers who were home from University, and came along to take part with us.

Bowling

Saturday March 27th

With the start of the Easter Holidays, it was time to take a break from our rehearsals schedule and have a social event.

Congratulations to the choir who won their class, being awarded a Distinction for their performances of “For the beauty of the earth” by John Rutter and “Over the Rainbow”.

Kurume Shinai Girls’ School

The choir held free cultural workshops after school in the Cathedral Precincts. These were well attended and a good time was had by all the participants. The workshops were on Japanese Flower Arranging, Koto (Japanese Harp), Origami, Shodo (Calligraphy) and Kimono dressing.

In the evening we will be held a joint concert with the Kurume Shinai Girls’ School Choir from Japan at Peterborough Cathedral as part of their tour of Great Britain. The performance was of a very high quality and full of energy and movement, despite the long journey from Japan

We were joined by soloist Melissa Holding who performed traditional Japanese pieces and her own compositions on the koto (Japanese Harp).

All Saint’s Christmas Concert

Friday December 11th 2009

The choir joined the All Saints’ Church Choir for an evening of popular carols sung by both the choir and audience.

Members of the choir had an unforgetable experience when they joined Hayley Westenra to open her Winter Magic Christmas Tour at Peterborough Cathedral. Their rendition of ‘The Coventry Carol’ received very good reviews from Hayley’s fans on their forums. The choir all thought that Hayley was wonderful and all got a personally signed program from her.

Buckden Towers

Friday September 25th 2009

The choir returned to Buckden for a two day residential at the Towers.
The choir was able to get to know each other better, improve their team work and have a good time.
It was not all rehearsals, there was the usual game of rounders which “nobody won”. There was also the chance to explore the grounds and collected conkers.
On Saturday night there was an informal music evening where the youngsters entertained each other.
On Sunday afternoon, they gave a short concert to their parents to demonstrate what they had done, including the “Buckden Rag”.
