Peter Davies was Musical Director of Peterborough Youth Choir from
2004-2006. He attended Christ Church University College, Canterbury where he
trained as a teacher and youth worker. He studied organ with Alan Gibbs and,
as Organ Scholar at Christ Church, with Philip Moore. He studied choral
repertoire and direction with Donald Burrows.

In October 1983 Peter was appointed as Organist and Choirmaster at All
Saints Sawtry (a post from which he retired in 2008). In 1986 he established
Sawtry Chorale (a mixed adult choir now over 40 strong). He retired as
Musical Director after 18 years in 2004 but remains its Life President.

In February 1995, Peter was appointed Musical Director of Huntingdon Male
Voice choir. With the choir, he has experienced considerable success in a
variety of competitions (including Sainsbury’s / Radio Three Choir of the
Year where HMVC remains the only Male Voice Choir ever to have reached the
televised semifinals). He has recorded with the choir for BBC Radio Three as
well as for a wide variety of other television and radio broadcasts.

Peter became a member of the Association of British Choral Directors in 1990
(serving as both Membership Secretary and a Trustee for several years). He
attended a wide variety of training events, seminars and master classes
given by the most eminent choral directors, composers and conductors in the
world. He undertook the ABCD’s most advanced musical direction course and
has since gone on to achieve further professional musical direction
qualifications.

Peter was appointed Festival Director of the Cornwall International Male
Voice Choral Festival in 2007 and works within the charity with well over
300 volunteers to ensure that, every two years, some 60 male voice choirs
from across the world convene in Cornwall for the six day Festival. As well
as concerts, informal singing events, educational activities, workshops,
master classes and social time, the Festival organises the largest male
voice choir competition in Europe with some 20 choirs participating in two
classes.

Now living north of Peterborough, Peter continues his musical studies,
undertakes workshops with choirs and other directors, adjudicates choral
competitions and maintains a private teaching practice for would be
organists, pianists and singers. He retains his membership of ABCD and the
British Voice Association.
